Complaint:

I was just wondering what the status is on the playground in Phantom housing located next to the tennis courts. It seems like that green fence was put up as soon as the kids started summer break. It's going on three months since that time and I have yet to see anyone work in that area. Now that school has started everyone has to walk around it. Is it going to be finished soon?

Response:

Fenced-off playgrounds are one of my favorite subjects and, in hindsight, we could have done better on this one.

These playgrounds were fenced off for a project to repair the sidewalks around 7 playgrounds in Falcon and Phantom. The project started in June 2008 with two playgrounds being fenced off for construction, one in Phantom and one in Falcon. When the contractor got the site secured he noticed contract changes were required to accomplish the project properly. 39 CONS processed a contract modification and the contractor restarted work Oct. 6 on both playgrounds. The scheduled completion date for these two playgrounds is Jan. 6 and a completion date of Aug. 1 for the entire project.

The modification process took longer than expected and, looking back, it would have been a good idea for us to take down the construction fences. The contractor is working again and we are all looking forward to seeing the playgrounds back in use.

I would also like to take this opportunity to put a plug in for our monthly Town Hall meetings, as this was discussed in our last Town Hall Meeting. The Town Hall Meeting is a great place to get information on what is happening in the community and for residents to ask questions and get answers. Please join us at our next one.
