Complaint:

This past weekend me and my family were at the Shoppette and a group of teenagers were sitting outside at the table causing a huge commotion. As I watched them from inside, two of the teenagers got into an all out fight and the manager and I went outside to break it up. The teenagers were disrespecting the manager calling him names until I set them straight and made them sit down and calm themselves.

I called SFS to come out and take a report. The manager also stated that these teens were notorious for coming and going into the back cooler, taking drinks and drinking them back there (essentially stealing) and leaving the empty cans in the back unpaid for. He also stated that the teens regularly come there throwing trash on the ground and making a huge mess. Before SFS came I made the teens pick up all the trash and clean the area. I think that their actions are appalling and that the nice folks at the Shoppette should not have to endure this on a regular basis. They are here for us, but not to have problems occurring like this.

I suggest placing cameras at the Shoppette and locks for the coolers so this behavior ceases. Not only are these teens stealing from the Shoppette, but also causing prices to raise for us due to their actions.

Response:

I would first like to thank you for being an active voice in the community, and teaming up with the manger to diffuse an unfortunate situation.

AAFES protocol for any physical altercations that occur inside or out of our facilities is to call the base Security Forces, and this has been re-emphasized to our employees.

The seating in front of the Shoppette is there for the community's use, and should be free of loud and disruptive behavior. The staff at the Shoppette will request anyone that does not act in a civilized manner to leave the premises. If they do not leave, they will call Security Forces for further action.

The theft of drinks in the coolers is being addressed, and will be monitored closely by our staff and our Loss Prevention team.

Again, thank you for your help. Your actions to help are a model for the community.
