Complaint:

I'm PCSing soon, and after dropping my car off at Delta to have it shipped I went to Pass/ID to complete my car de-registration. I have a concern/question/complaint as to why a government employee is charging $20 per person to do his job.

"Mr. T" said he takes the plates and paperwork to the proper authorities to complete de-registration - but for a $20 fee.

He said I could do it myself for free, but at that point, with no car, and knowing how hard it is to find places in Adana and dealing with the language barrier, it would be really difficult to do this.

Something just seems wrong here, us paying a government employee to do his job (and I assume he does this on government time too) doesn't seem right.

I suggest a weekly shuttle, like the one for residency permits, be started and Mr. T ride along for assistance for everyone needing to do business at the Adana vehicle center.

Response:

Thank you for the opportunity to clarify the vehicle deregistration process.

The deregistration process requires stops at three locations in Adana (Tax Office, Traffic Bureau, then a return trip to the Tax Office). The $20 "expediter fee" is paid directly to an independent contractor in Adana. It's a customer service option offered to make the deregistration process easier and none of our employees receive money from it.
Thanks for the good question, and I hope your PCS goes well.
