Action line 81117 - Dorms Published Jan. 5, 2009 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: My question/concern is about the living situation in the dorms. There are instances in the dorms where a ratee and rater are sharing a bathroom (suitemates), and several more instances where NCO's and the Airman they work with are sharing the bathrooms. With a CRO these NCO's could easily be the rater of their suitemate. To me this seems like a situation that could easily be fixed if the dorms where not set up by squadron but rather by having Airman and NCO dorms. It is the same amount of people so space should not be an issue. Response: Thank you for your concern regarding our dormitories; they are at the top of our quality of life list. The command chief and I spend a lot of time discussing ways to make our dorms even better. We are required by Air Force Instruction to maintain unit integrity and to maximize occupancy rates in our dormitories. That's why we house airmen from the same organizations together as best we can. When you evaluate our manning percentages by rank you realize we are not able to segregate our Amn, NCOs, and SNCOs in their own dormitories and maintain unit integrity or appropriate occupancy ratios. However, our housing manager does try to pair suite mates of similar ranks as much as possible. That said, my expectation is that our more senior airmen will be a positive influence on our junior airmen, even in the dormitory. Sharing a bathroom in the dorms should not be a major issue to maintaining professional relationships. Thank you again for voicing your concern.
