Gallop away at Adana’s horse races Published Jan. 5, 2009 By Mehmet Birbiri 39th Air Base Wing host nation advisor INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Adana is one of the few cities in Turkey that allows horse racing. In fact, Adana is one of the very first cities that held horse races in the country. The horse track is on the D-400 highway. Once on the highway towards Adana, cross over the Seyhan River, drive through Adana towards Mersin, pass the civilian airport on your left. Approximately two miles after the airport you will see the Adana Horse Track on the left, adjacent to the highway. Seven to eight horse races are held from 12- 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. You may see many street vendors, mostly kebap stands letting smoke come out of the grills, but some people bring their own food and eat on the entrance area lawns. You can Google, The Turkey Jockey Club for more information about the races. The Turkey Jockey Club also has an English page on its Web site. Naturally, most of the spectators bet on horses.
