Action line -- 90103 Dependants in the dorms Published Jan. 26, 2009 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing public affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: It was brought to my attention by one of my troops that dependants have been hanging out in the dormitory area. They are running around screaming, knocking on random doors, leaving trash everywhere, and even going as far as lighting fires in trash cans. When I asked my troop if people have confronted them and told them to stop he/she said they have and the kids used profanity and threw up obscene gestures. Dorm residents have called the 39th Security Forces law enforcement desk and the dependants leave by the time someone arrives. My questions are: Is there a curfew for dependants, are they not told to stay away from the dorm area, and what can my troops do in order to keep the peace in the dorms? Response: Thanks for taking the time to write. There is no curfew for dependants at Incirlik AB and they should know that they are not allowed in the dorm area. Of course, I can't personally attest that every one of them has received the word. I ask our troops to not give up working this one. A couple ideas come to mind...first, call security forces before making contact with the dependents...maybe the 39 SFS folks can get there before the dependents realize anybody has called. Secondly, most everyone has a camera...take a picture and I guarantee we will find them: Incirlik is a small base! Tell the dorm residents I'm behind them 100% on this, but I don't live there; they do, and it will take their vigilance to solve it. I do have a town hall meeting next week and will remind our dependents of the fact the dorms are off limits. Thanks for writing.
