Action line 90106 - Activities on base Published Feb. 18, 2009 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: Recently, it has been brought to the attention of the leadership that there are not enough activities going on here at Incirlik. Before an event at the Incirlik club on 15 Jan, the Airman in charge of the event sent an email to his shirt to get the information out to those who may have not seen the two signs located on the base. Nothing was posted on the 39th Air Base Wing Community Events Calendar like other events for the club. The few people who showed up had a decent time, but events like these are better if more people are involved. If we are going to address problems that the community has, we should at least take it seriously at all levels and help put forth an honest effort. Most importantly, the Airman who put the event together should have been supported by his leaders for doing something positive for the community. Response: Wow...wish we had known about this airman's drive and event planning. The reason this took a bit to answer was we had to do some digging to figure out which event you meant. Leadership knew nothing about it...turns out the Airman did all the footwork himself to include getting the signs printed and posted. Unfortunately, he/she forgot one big item, to let anybody know about their desire to have this event beforehand. The club was not reserved and FSS did not know about it which is why there was no advertising on the community events calendar or CAC. Had we known, I'm certain the outcome would have been very different...I am always looking for energetic Airmen who want to get engaged. We just need them to let folks know what they want to do so we can support and make it happen! That being said, if there is a event you would like to see at a FSS location (club, community center, bowling, etc.) then please speak with Maj Jim Turner, 39 FSS/CC (you can do this through your first sergeant as well). He will determine if your event qualifies as a Wing Community Event and if it should to be held at one of the FSS locations. He will also help you get in touch with the right people to schedule the room, garner management support, and ensure proper promotion and advertising of the event. I really applaud this Airman's drive and hope he/she tries again. We're ready to help...just need to know early in the planning! Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
