Action line 90105 - Enrichment Center pricing

Complaint:

My son is enrolled in the enrichment program here on base. He only started about 4 weeks ago and we found out this week that next week they will only be offering one out of the three days the program offers.

I asked if the pricing would reflect this and they stated it would not and that we would still pay the $22.50 for the week. I talked with someone at the child development center who stated that they do their pricing off the DoD schedule.

This still makes absolutely no sense because they charge by the week. I should not being paying a full week's price when THEY are not offering a full week of service.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Response:

Good question! Piqued my interest, too.

The Child Development Center (CDC) does set fees for the Part Day Enrichment (PDE) program based on the local Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS) calendar. As such, PDE is not available during regularly scheduled school holidays and breaks. Note: all pre-scheduled school holidays were taken into account when setting PDE prices. By taking the 'days off' into account at the beginning of the school year it allowed us to set a consistent price for weekly care regardless of the number of days your child is in the program for any given week. The overall price for PDE is averaged across the year to avoid the inconvenience of paying higher prices one week and lower prices the next based on single school holidays. The only weeks the CDC does not calculate into the overall averaged price is Winter and Spring Break which is why you will not pay for care during those weeks. The CDC does understand there are instances when the school may schedule a holiday that was not pre-identified on the annual school calendar. In those instances, the CDC will prorate weekly fees accordingly.

So, the bottom line is the weekly cost is an average cost which takes into account "days off" across the entire school year.
I
encourage you to contact the CDC Director if you have additional questions or concerns. Thanks for writing.
