Action Line #90402 – Delta office Published April 20, 2009 By Anonymous 39th Air Base Wing, Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: My vehicle has been at Delta for about a month now. I have done all the waiting for paperwork, registration and licenses and much more. I had gotten a phone call telling me I had to go to Turkish Customs to finish the last piece of paperwork and then I could get my vehicle. Unfortunately no one was there, so I went back to Delta later on to find out that it was going to be much longer until I was able to get my car due to some Customs paperwork issue. At first I thought it was just my car and then my Chief called me to tell me that everyone would not be able to get this car and the reason for all of this was above our heads. There have been multiple rumors of why no one is allowed to get their cars. From my understanding, an email was supposed to go out explaining the issue and I have yet to receive an email. It is extremely hard to not have a car on this base with a pregnant wife and all of the appointments that go with it, so it's necessary to have one. And it's especially hard to be paying for 1 vehicle that I can't see or use and also pay for a rental car along with trying to save money or use money towards other necessary expenses for our soon to be born son. So I was just curious of how long is this freeze on getting our vehicle going to last? Thank you for your time sir. Response: Thank you for your question, as it affects many of our members on base. Living and working in Turkey provides unique opportunities to work with our host nation partners, but it can be challenging as well. Recent unforeseen changes in the Turkish customs system have driven a delay in releasing personally owned vehicles to our members. Any POV which arrived to Incirlik AB after 27 March 09 is being held while these changes can be addressed with Turkish authorities. Releasing POVs to our members now would create the potential for additional costs, paperwork, or even a possible recall of vehicles for an indefinite period of time. This temporary delay will save you money and frustration in the future. Many folks around the wing and in Ankara are working this issue hard...I am personally engaged and we check on progress daily. I completely understand your frustration, but want all our personnel to know the current freeze is in everyone's best long term interest. Thank you for your patience in this matter...rest assured we are working it hard and hope to have resolution soon.
