Action Line #90410 -- Playground sunshades Published May 15, 2009 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: I just got here and was wondering why the playgrounds in Falcon are the only playgrounds with sun shades? I know that in Phantom that you put benches that are covered. What does it take to get sun shades for Phantom, besides money of course? Thank you for a speedy answer. Response: Good question. Currently there are only four playgrounds on base with sun shades, and all are located in the new Eagle Housing area. To date, we hadn't looked at installing sun shades at other playgrounds, but due to your interest we will. Our engineers will need to look at a couple of issues before we do. First, we need to look at existing natural shading. Several playgrounds are well sheltered by trees and may not warrant a sun shade. Next, we'll have to examine installation and maintenance costs. If the costs are supportable, we can then program the projects that make sense for fiscal year 2010. Once all of the variables are examined, we will then take the time to readdress this issue with you and the rest of wing to ensure you have full and complete answer to your question. I do hope you enjoy the covered benches, sidewalks and rubberized fall surfaces that are all new improvements to the playgrounds. Thanks for your suggestion.
