Action Line #90401 – Air Conditioning Published May 18, 2009 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: I know lately the weather has been improving, and we all have been enjoying it. My only gripe is that we need to turn the air conditioning back on in the dorms, because it gets hot in there. Can somebody please shed some light on why we are forced to roast in the dorms when it is not necessary? Thanks. Response: The decision to activate the dormitory air conditioning system is based on daily high temperatures and the concurrence of the dormitory community. The criteria to activate the system is seven consecutive days of 70 degrees or higher and that mark was reached April 11-17. On April 10 the wing command chief met with all first sergeants and asked them to discuss air conditioning with their dormitory residents. On April17 the 39th Mission Support Group chief received notification from all first sergeants that the majority of residents requested air conditioning. Our Civil Engineers activate a majority of dormitory air conditioning systems on April 17. The only except was building 892 because our engineers had to install a new digital control system to improve operations in this building. The engineers completed this installation on April 23 and brought the system on-line. Also bear in mind that due to the type of old systems in the dorms, only heat or air conditioning can be activated at any one time...this is not by our choice. I hope this explains the process.
