Action Line #90604 -- Base Shuttle

Complaint:

I am inquiring if a shuttle bus could make stops inside the housing areas just a couple times a week for a BX/Commissary run. I am aware they make daily stops just outside each housing area. Understanding that most families only have one vehicle or even some new folks who still have no car, a shuttle run that provides pick-up/drop-off points closer to their dwellings would make trips to the BX/Commissary 10 times easier. I know my wife and I have struggled with the walk from the high school track drop off to our house down to Isparta. My proposal is to have a pick up twice a week at a couple designated spots in housing, say along Istanbul, or Izmir St. at a specific time. Then drop off at the BX, then go to the other housing area for a couple stops for pickup, then back to BX, Maybe wait for 15 minutes, then back to Phantom area for drop off, back to BX, then back to Eagle for Drop off.

In all I think this could take less than 1- 1 1/2 hours. At the rate of $21 an hour that you stated in a previous action line a couple months ago this could be done for roughly $60 a week. I guess depending on usage even a cargo van could do the job.

Response:

Thank you for the suggestion and the opportunity to answer a commonly asked question. Unfortunately, we are strictly prohibited by Air Force Instruction from allowing shuttle buses to enter base housing and any recreational or shopping areas unless these areas are reasonably unavoidable.

Our existing routes have been designed to accommodate residents to the maximum extent possible while remaining compliant with established Air Force policies. On those days when a vehicle is an absolute must, the base's commercial taxi service is available to meet your needs. A taxi can be called by dialing 676-6461 or 676-1349.

Should you have questions regarding the shuttle service, please contact Vehicle Operations at 676-3422 or 6489.
