Action Line #90609 -- Speeding Buses

Complaint:

I would like to address the buses that come through Phantom Housing. These bus drivers are literally "flying" through our neighborhood at high speeds and it's during the time that children are walking/riding bikes to school. With summer months coming and even more children out and about, we really need to get this situation under control! I understand they have the construction site they have to get to that lies in the middle, but the alternate route of taking D Street to Istanbul and taking a right onto Istanbul is much safer for all with only a couple of houses there. There have been multiple adults out that have attempted to get the bus drivers to slow down, and even with the speed bumps, they still fly right over those as well. A child is going to get seriously hurt or killed one day because those bus drivers don't have a care in the world while driving. Could you please help us out in Phantom with this dangerous situation?

Response:

Thank you for bringing this issue to light. Safety is a primary concern in the Incirlik community, for both our Turkish and U.S. residents. I have coordinated with the 10th Tanker Command leadership and was informed that the Turkish buses have been re-routed to avoid driving through the housing areas, although they will be stopping on the housing area perimeters.

I've also solicited the assistance of my Security Forces and TAF Joint Patrols to monitor and enforce speed limits in and around Phantom Housing and other areas that need additional presence as time permits.

Again, thank you for bringing this issue to my attention and we'll continue to work on making Incirlik a safer place for our families.
