Students at the Incirlik Unit School will see a new face in the principal's office when they return to school Aug. 31.

Terry Greene, the former chief of staff of education for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools district in Korea, has assumed her first role with DoDDS in Turkey.

While in Korea, she worked in accreditation, continuous school improvement and assessment. Her experience there will help IUS prepare for its assessment and accreditation coming up later this year.

"I spent a lot of time working with the schools there, preparing them for these assessments," she said. "It takes a lot of preparation and coordination to ensure everything is in order for these important assessments."

Ms. Greene is intent on making sure everyone's voice is heard while she is running the office. She wants her students to look forward to coming to school and wants the parents to feel comfortable with the school they're going to.

"I know parents have been unhappy with things in the past," Ms. Greene said. "I want them to be happy with what we are doing, and we are planning on starting up some new programs this year that, I hope, will help ensure that."

A teacher for more than 30 years, Ms. Greene started at DoDDS in 1978. She spent 15 years with DoDDS before heading back to the states to get her doctorate in 1993. After working for a large school district in Dallas, she finally returned to DoDDS in 2005.

A former "military brat" herself, Ms. Greene knows the difficulties military dependents go through and is familiar with the DoDDS program.

"My dad was in the Air Force for 35 years," she said. "I went to DoDDS schools growing up as well."

A frequent visitor of Turkey, Ms. Greene has always wanted to live in Turkey but has yet to have the chance; until now.

"I've wanted to live in Turkey for years," Mrs. Greene said. "I don't think people here quite realize that on the teacher transfer program, Turkey is one of the most requested locations. But nobody ever seems to get here because nobody ever seems to leave."

"It's an honor to be here," she added. "I'm just looking forward to the school year and working with the community. Everyone I've met so far has been great and I think we're going to have a great year."
