Action Line #90906 -- Health Concern Published Sept. 30, 2009 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: My wife and I are regular walkers. As we walk around base housing and around common areas we have noticed the sidewalks are covered with bird droppings. As we enforce individuals to clean after their pets, we need to enforce cleaning up bird droppings as well ... both are health hazards. I'm very surprised no one has brought this up before. Response: I would like to thank you for bringing this concern to our attention. It's a difficult subject considering the bird population fluctuates due to seasonal migration. In addition, birds are more prevalent here because of the farming environment surrounding the base. The 39th Civil Engineer Squadron will contact facility managers and request they check for excessive bird droppings within 75 feet of their facilities. Base Housing residents are also encouraged to help keep our community clean by actively participating in neighborhood cleanups. IAW current guidance, housing occupants are responsible for areas extending to the center of the nearest road in front of their homes and halfway to the neighboring units on either side and in back. The 39th CES is responsible for all common areas, parks and playgrounds. If you are aware of heavy bird droppings in a particular area, please contact Civil Engineer Service Call Desk at 676-6356 or 676-6357.
