Action Line #90907 -- Dependent drivers Published Oct. 28, 2009 By 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: It has been my understanding that dependents under the age of 18 years of age were not allowed to drive on Incirlik. As a parent of a teenager I have tried to teach them that integrity is very important and that rules, no matter if we dislike them should be followed. During the past year I have witnessed a dependent of base leadership driving on base regularly. Other dependants say, "Rank has its privileges." What are other dependents that have a driver's license learning from this? Would you please provide clarification on the appropriate age for drivers on Incirlik? Thank you! Response: I understand the confusion and thank you for the question! It is true that no new drivers, under the age of 18 are allowed to operate a motor vehicle on Incirlik however, anybody over the age of 16 with a valid stateside driver's license may. According to Incirlik Air Base Supplement to Air Force Instruction 31-204, "All dependents under the age of 18 with a current stateside driver's license are authorized to drive in Turkey with a notarized Turkish translation or International Drivers License. Learners permits are not honored nor can anyone under 18 be issued a Turkish drivers license." The dependent referenced in your question does indeed meet all licensing requirements and is in fact a legal driver.
