Action Line #91005 – Passing busses Published Nov. 3, 2009 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: The first is the sign on the front and back of the school buses says caution do not pass when the red lights are flashing. On the front of the bus, there are no red lights. They are amber or yellow. There are red lights on the back of the bus but the ones that flash are yellow. I think the sign on the buses needs to be changed to read yellow instead of red. The second issue is vehicles that pass the school buses when they are loading or unloading with their lights flashing. We have been averaging one incident a week and had two this morning. When this happens the monitors get the tag number and security forces is alerted. Everyone on base that drives, both Turkish and American, needs to be advised that when the school buses are sitting with lights flashing you are not supposed to pass them. Response: Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention. The signs on the busses have been changed. We are watching selected school bus stops for violators. The 39th Air Base Wing Security Forces patrols are making their presence known (e.g. lights on in the vicinity of the school bus stops) at selected locations/times. Please contact the law enforcement Desk at 676-3200 if you see folks not stopping at the bus stops. Thank you once again for your concern. Commander's Comment: Thank you for calling us out on this. The signs on the buses were not right, you noticed it, and you did something to fix it. That's exactly what I mean when I demand that we fight for what's right. Don't ever stop demanding excellence in all we do!
