MDG continues H1N1 vaccination distribution on Incirlik Published Dec. 4, 2009 By Staff Sgt. Raymond Hoy 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Medical professionals continue to distribute H1N1 vaccinations to members of the Incirlik community. The 39th Medical Group has distributed the vaccinations to more than 83 percent of the active-duty and high risk base residents. That's more than 1,200 vaccinations administered to date. High risk people are any members who have ongoing respiratory problems or a high probability of cardiac issues. "We've done a really good job so far at getting the vaccination to those who need it most right now," said Staff Sgt. Justin Fuhler, Immunizations NCOIC. "As we get in a bigger supply, we will make sure to get it out to the rest of the base population in a timely fashion. " Although the 39th MDG continues vaccinating the base populace, members are asked to continue good prevention techniques. "The best way to prevent rapid spread of the flu in the base population is to employ the simple techniques of judicious and frequent hand washing along with coughing and sneezing into the shirtsleeve and practicing "social distancing" by avoiding unnecessary contact with people who are not sick themselves," said Lt. Col. (Dr.) Salvatore Lucido, a physician with the 39th MDG. "Folks who are sick should notify their supervisors of their illness over the phone instead of going in to the workplace to do that. Your supervisor may give you permission to stay at home to avoid spreading the illness to other coworkers. " Click here for more information on H1N1 and the seasonal flu.
