Take pledge, become military saver Published Feb. 12, 2010 By Senior Airman Alex Martinez 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Military Saves Week is Feb. 23 - 27, and the Airman and Family Readiness Center has planned a number of free classes to help Incirlik Members build a financial lifestyle that encourages them to save money, build wealth and decrease debt. Military Saves is a national campaign to persuade, motivate and encourage military families to save money every month, according to the campaign's Web site, www.militarysaves.org. It also helps convince leaders and organizations to be aggressive in promoting automatic savings. The site encourages visitors to take the Saver Pledge as encouragement to be more fiscally responsible. "The impact financial fitness has on mission readiness is undeniable," said Brian Kenefick, an Incirlik community readiness consultant. "[Military Saves Week] has been set aside to encourage all of Team Incirlik which includes military members, their family, government civilians and contractors to become military savers and adopt a saver lifestyle." The week's schedule offers several different "brown bag lunch" classes to meet many people's needs: Feb. 22: Saving and Investment - 12 to 1 p.m. Feb. 23: Credit and Debt Management - 1 to 2 p.m. Feb. 24: Foreclosure Avoidance - 12 to 1 p.m. Feb. 25: Credit Reports and Scores - 12 to 1 p.m. Feb. 26: Car Buying - 12 to 1 p.m. Feb. 27: Home Buying - 1 to 3 p.m. "If members of Team Incirlik are stressed and preoccupied with money worries or credit issues, they could potentially be distracted," Mr. Kenefick said. "As a result, mission success could be jeopardized, but Military Saves can help." Visit www.militarysaves.org for more information. Visit the A&FRC or call 676-6755 to sign up for a class.
