Team Incirlik members participated in the base's first Winterathlon Feb. 20, 2010 at the skeet range.

Twelve Incirlik members took part in the event consisting of a 10K run, 20K bike ride and a shooting competition at the range.

For a chance to win a 1st, 2ndor 3rd place medal, the competitors had to pay a $7 entry fee and sign up in their respective men's and women's category; 34 and under and 35 and over.

"We took the individual competitor's run and bike score and subtracted one minute off that time for each clay pigeon they shot," said Ernest Fasoldt, Incirlik's sports and fitness director.

The winner of the overall event was Senior Airman Berlin Aniciete from the 39th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

"I love to compete," Airman Aniciete said. "My favorite part of the event was shooting." Airman Aniciete shot three clay pigeons out of 10 which knocked three minutes off his overall time.

Even though this was the first Winterathlon, Incirlik members said they hope it becomes an annual event.

"We had extremely positive feedback from the participants," Mr. Fasoldt said. "We will definitely try doing this again next year."

The 39th Force Support Squadron sponsors a wide variety of sporting events for all talents.

"We try to schedule something for participants of all abilities throughout the year," Mr. Fasoldt said. "We run monthly special events to give the base populace a chance to work out in a slightly different venue."
