Action Line #100104–Letter Drop Box Published Feb. 26, 2010 By 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: I recently noticed in the ODC (Post Office) that there is not a letter drop box for letters going to Incirlik. What caused me to look was we were at the Resource Management office for the Med Group and they said they mailed out some bills and receipts to us on 6 January. They were mailed to our APO box on base. As of 19 January we still have not received them. At other bases we have been stationed there is a letter drop for mail going on base to the APO boxes. Why does it take over 2 weeks for letters to get to us when mailed and sent to addresses on base? Response: The Official Document Center (ODC) does have an outgoing mail slot for on base and APO mail located inside building 977, the Postal Service Center. Adjacent to the parcel pick-up window are two slots; one is labeled "Stateside Mail" and the other is labeled "APO, International & Mispitched Mail". Mail received through these slots is processed within 24 hours. Business mail (i.e., bills and receipts) should be sent through a unit's designated mail clerk. Once the unit mail clerk delivers the mail to the ODC's Official Mail Center, it is also processed within 24 hours. According to the Official Mail Manager, a stack of approximately 20 letters were returned to the Medical Group on 6 January because there was no return address. All APO/FPO mail must be in compliance with USPS official mail regulations and directives, which includes a proper return address. Since this type of mail is not tracked, it cannot be determined when the letters were corrected and returned to the ODC. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the Postmaster at 676-3466.
