Action Line #100401 – Turkish Workers Morning Buses Published April 22, 2010 By 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Complaint: I work at the school and ever since the road from the old auto skills center to the gate has been closed, the Turkish workers buses have been parking along the street by the ATM in front of the school in the morning to pick up workers. This causes several problems in the area. 1) When someone comes in and wants to park outside the school parking on the street they cannot as the busses are blocking the parking spaces. 2) When the shuttle bus arrives in the morning at approx 0730 it has to stop at the cross walk in front of the school to let off passengers, usually high school students, as the Turkish buses take up the whole area from the entrance of the school to the ATM. 3) It is just going to be a matter time before a Turkish worker gets hit by a car near the ATM as they do not look when crossing the street and there is a lot of vehicle traffic that time of morning as people are coming on base to work. A solution to this problem would be to have the buses go to the other side of the road to load up in the morning. This would open up the parking spaces and eliminate the need for the Turkish workers to cross the road to get on a bus. I can appreciate the fact that they are provided transportation to work, but let's try to keep it as safe as possible. Response: Thank you for your question. It's comforting to know that we have people like you on the lookout for potential safety issues such as this. Fortunately, the situation has improved now that construction has completed along the main security way. This will allow the contracted buses to go back to the original route and no longer park along the main road during passenger pick-up. This will alleviate the congestion at the ATM, provide more parking spaces, and provide a much safer environment for our Turkish workforce and base shuttle bus riders.
