Base destruction facility helps ensure 100% shred policy Published April 29, 2010 By Senior Airman Alex Martinez 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- In order to ensure Incirlik has the means to destroy unclassified paper material and adhere to the Air Force's 100 percent shred policy, the 39th Communications Squadron established a base destruction facility. The machine, or giant shredder, is capable of shredding up to 500 sheets of paper at a time. Staff Sgt. Joseph Jones, 39th CS Base Publications and Forms manager, said he thinks the bulk shredding capability benefits the base members because, "base personnel [will be] able to stay in compliance with the 100 percent shred policy." The use of the shredder is for official use only, and base personnel must attend a safety course prior to being able to use the facility. "[Interested] individuals need to contact our office and make an appointment for use," Sergeant Jones said. The facility is scheduled to open the week of May 3-7. The facility is located in Bldg. 470, and will be open from 9:30 - 11 a.m. and 1 - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. To sign up for the safety training course, make an appointment or for more information, call 676-6321/9792.
