Action Line #100607 - Taxi service on base Published July 23, 2010 By 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE,Turkey -- Complaint: Just wanted to share my experience I recently had with the base taxi service. Tonight we used the taxi service and was very disappointed in the service. When we got to our destination our total was 6.75. We have been here nearly two years so we knew this meant Lira. My husband pulled out ten lira bill and handed it to the driver. The driver handed it back and said dollar. I corrected him and said no, the machine is in Lira. He insisted on dollar and when I argued with him saying "no lira", he said no, I have no change for Lira, meaning we would say keep the change. I said you have to have change (I remember there was an action line about this before) when proceeded to tell him that this is a rule that they carry lira, especially change, he proceeded to give us an attitude. I'm just worried that any newcomers or anyone else in this matter is getting ripped off by the taxi drivers on base. If we had not been here for nearly two years, and had I not ever read the action line I would have never known any of this. I would have definitely over paid. Can we maybe "enforce" or tell the company to get their act together? Response: Thank you for bringing this issue to light. You are correct, the taxi service's primary method of payment is Turkish Lira and they should not have demanded dollars for payment. If you can identify the driver and/or the cab number we can report it to the manager to rectify the issue. Repeat offenses could be means for banning the driver from the base.
