Complaint
:
I live on Silifke in Phantom Housing. Are there any particular rules for the construction workers? They are always walking in mass groups, from construction site to what I guess could be called their head quarters. But they are always scattered over the street, some on the sidewalk, but mainly they block traffic. I would like to request a cross walk be put in and that it be mandatory to cross at the cross walk and then walk on the sidewalk. I was involved in a vehicle accident recently, on Izmir Street. A truck driver coming from the construction site had priority, while another driver and I were sitting at the stop sign and construction workers were all over the road. The truck driver was turning onto the street we were on, but did not have enough room. Instead of waiting for us to pull out onto the other street, he turned into our street anyway; causing the driver in front of me, to back into my car. The truck driver gave us no time to react to the situation properly.

Response:
Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention.

The Phantom Housing Renovation Contractor was informed immediately regarding your concerns. The contractor assigned two of his safety personnel to escort his workers during lunch hours and shift endings from the construction site to the mobilization area, and vice versa. Additionally, all workers were briefed to use sidewalks and pedestrian crossings only. We will continue to enforce pedestrian traffic rules with our work force in the next phases of construction in Phantom and Falcon Housing.

With regards to the truck incident, we strongly recommend to note vehicle plate numbers of contractor vehicles that act irresponsibly or do not obey the rules. Disciplinary actions can be taken when the vehicle is identified. Please feel free to call the director of Civil Engineering at 676-6898 (Mon-Fri 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) for any further concerns with regards to Housing Renovation Projects.
