Complaint
:
Because of some objectionable pictures posted on Incirlik's Face Book, we have been targets of Cyber bullying.

We never asked of such pictures to be posted. The leaders of this overseas summer camp might have thought that they were funny, but dark humor that goes around the world are by far the least desirable images than we want to present. Those pictures can be incredibly dangerous, and have destroyed some of our peace at home.

One undesirable picture without the consent of the person not practicing the golden rule (do not do to others what you will not want the others do to you) can ruin a good self image that parents have been working on all the life of the child. So beware! And just in general be careful of embarrassing moments or making fun of others without consent.

Children do not want to be bullied at the start of their new school year because of a situation that was silly, painful and encouraged by the camp. Their new peers do not need to see our kids in any form of degrading situations. Many people are very sensitive, and have good morals which we don't want to compromise.

Bad pictures can have a negative impact on our lives. What might be a funny at the moment the picture was taken does not mean that the whole world needs to see it or perceive a child as being induced to pain, degrading, and offensive behavior. It does not mean that the person's personality is that way. This type of humor can be offensive to others, opening the door to Cyber bulling.

Please help regulate Face Book by letting users know that degrading pictures of somebody or putting them in a negative light must be approved by the person in the picture OR their parent if a minor, not the owner of the picture. This might help more people be more sensible about each other privacy rights.

Response:
Although public affairs has determined the photos you mentioned were not posted on the 39th Air Base Wing's official Face Book page, but on someone's personal Face Book account, this subject is still important to discuss.

Any material that is offensive or may be interpreted as offensive is not allowed on our official Face Book page or the wing's other venues for communication with the public. Our PA office maintains and monitors the wing's public communication mediums and has the ability to remove offensive photos and comments from our official sites and has done so in the past. They also have the ability to ban members from the official Face Book page for posting inappropriate material and have without hesitation.

Our official Face Book account has a disclosure that reads, "Welcome to the official Incirlik AB Fan Page! Please post comments, upcoming events, discussion topics and photos. Posts that include offensive or inappropriate material or promote a business will be deleted."

In addition if you have questions or find something offensive in the future that the PA office may have missed, please call 676-6060 or e-mail 39ABW.PA@incirlik.af.mil to have the issue resolved. For offensive content on someone's personal Face Book accounts, I recommend you contact the individual directly to have the content removed, or if no action is taken, you can contact Face Book to take action.

Thank you for the opportunity to inform the public about a new medium of communication.
