Eight contestants competed in the Incirlik Idol final at the Club Complex here Oct. 7, 2010.

The Idol judges awarded first place to a group called 1-Sound that is comprised of two Incirlik members from the 39th Logistics Readiness Squadron -- Airman 1st Class Andrew Lomax, aka Lo-Max, and Airman 1st Class Joshua Davis, aka J-Wayne.

"There was a huge turnout at the club," said Dawn Parker, the Incirlik Club DJ. "All the contestants were so good and the event was so much fun. I'm just glad I could be the DJ for the event."

The competition started Sept. 9 and continued each Thursday for four weeks. This was the last week for the participants to showcase their talents in front of an audience of more than 200.

Incirlik Idol was a competition based on a popular TV show that had a panel of judges who critiqued the contestants after their performances and selected the winner.

After two performances from each contestant or group, the judges gave their opinions and words of wisdom and then they tallied the points to be added up named the winner.

"The competition was great; everybody who competed was very talented," said Airman Lomax. "We had an excellent time every time we stepped on stage. Just being afforded the opportunity to share our music with everyone in attendance was a good time in itself. Winning was an ultimate bonus."

The winners took home a $500 gift card and a plaque displaying their win.

Senior Airman April Bailey, 39th LRS, was named the runner-up. Other contestants included Morgan Royer, 39th Force Support Squadron, Susan Groendyk, wife of Capt. David Groendyk, Area Defense Council, Senior Airman Julie Person, 385th Air Expeditionary Group, Capt. Shane Shcmitt, 39th FSS, and Tech. Sgt. Iman Dillard, 39th Contracting Squadron.
