SFS and MXS to meet in championship game Published Dec. 10, 2010 By Senior Airman Anthony J. Hyatt 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- After a two and a half month long regular season and a 10-team playoff tournament, two teams have prevailed to meet in Incirlik's 2010 Intramural Flag Football Championship game Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the base track. The number one seeded 39th Security Forces Squadron, who finished the regular season with a 9-0 win-loss record, will play the number two seeded 39th Maintenance Squadron, who finished with a 7-2 record, for the base championship. One team won both of their playoff games with ease, but the other fought their way in. To get to the championship game, the SFS had to beat the 39th Civil Engineer Squadron/Operations Squadron and 39th Logistics Readiness Squadron, who were seeded tenth and fifth respectively. SFS won against CES/OS earlier in the week with a score of 24-2 and then went on to beat LRS 18-6. On the other hand, the MXS team played some much closer games. MXS began their playoffs against the eighth seeded 728th Air Mobility Squadron, which they beat 18-12. Thursday night didn't get easier for MXS, they had to face the 39th Medical Group, who was seeded third. In the lowest scoring game of the playoffs, MXS came out on top with a final score of 7-0. Defense has gotten the MXS team to where they are today, who have recorded three shutouts this season, according to Senior Airman Paul Schone, coach of the MXS team. The Security Forces have also pitched three shutouts this year and on top of that have put up the most points scored in the regular season with 193. The 193 points is 50 more points than the second highest scoring team this season. "We've had outstanding play on both sides of the ball," said Staff Sgt. James Finley, SFS wide-receiver. "We will be ready to play and to defend our championship." This isn't the first time the two teams will meet. SFS and MXS met back on Oct. 18 and SFS won the game 12-7. "We [MXS] have the chance to play SFS again and get some redemption for that loss," said Airman Schone. "Maintenance is pumped and ready to roll." While both teams took different paths, they both had the same end result; getting to the championship game, which is Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the base track.
