Officials at the 39th Medical Group here recently implemented a new process for disposing of unused medications.

The new "take-back" program allows patients to return unused medications to the pharmacy in the clinic for proper disposal.

"This policy was implemented to ensure we are compliant with our host-nation country's regulations for proper medication disposal," said Capt. Daniel Oh, the 39th Medical Support Squadron pharmacy flight commander. "This process allows us to dispose of medication as safely as possible."

This process is necessary because pharmaceuticals are classified as hazardous waste in Turkey and must be disposed of properly.

The pharmacy can accept all types of medications for return as long as they are in their original containers.
