More than 150 people attended a Super Bowl party for all Incirlik personnel at the Club Complex here, Feb. 6-7, to watch Super Bowl XLV and to vote for the winners of the Incirlik Super Bowl commercial contest.

Despite the time difference from the United States, football fans around Incirlik made the commitment to watch the big game at 1:30 a.m. The faithful fans had the opportunity to win prizes, such as recliners, Army and Air Force Exchange Service gift cards, t-shirts and hats at the event. Winners of the prizes were drawn randomly throughout the game.

"It was a great event and it was a lot of fun. I thought it did a lot for morale," said Chief Master Sgt. Marcus Snoddy, the 39th Air Base Wing command chief. "It was good to see fans cheering for their teams and having some good clean fun. That was one of the best Super Bowl events I have been to in my career."

The event was sponsored by the 39th Force Support Squadron and was held in conjunction with the finale of the Incirlik Super Bowl commercial contest. Club personnel screened the submissions and fans had the opportunity to vote for the favorites. The winners were announced at half time.

The unit category winners were the 39th Operations Squadron in 1st place, the 39th Communications Squadron in 2nd place, and the 39th Security Forces Squadron in 3rd place. The units won $10,000, $6,000, and $4,000 respectively in wing quality-of-life funds.

This is the second consecutive year the 39th OS has taken first place in the local contest, said Senior Airman Michael Jaeger, a 39th OS air traffic controller.

Members of the 39th Medical Group won the contest for the individual category. Their prize includes a Kizkalesi boat adventure for the winner and up to nine others.

The theme for the 2011 commercial contest focused on being an "active bystander." A bystander is someone who is a witness to an event but is not directly involved. An "active bystander" is a witness to a behavior that is violent or unfair and speaks up against it. Being an "active bystander" means you are making a commitment to speak out against violence and make a difference, according to the myduty.mil website..

"Our commercial can teach others how to be a good wingman and make sure our fellow Airmen are not making bad decisions," said Senior Airman Jennifer Jolly from the 39th OS air field management.
