Hyatt 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- U.S. Air Forces in Europe officials named the 39th Security Forces Squadron here the Outstanding Active Duty Large Security Forces Unit in the recently announced 2010 Security Forces Unit Awards. The squadron saved the Air Force $3.4 million through creative thinking during a Tactical Automated Security System installation and solidified funding for a 10-year-old Local Monitoring Facility move valued at $843,000. The entire unit went from an unsatisfactory rating in a 2009 inspection to be highlighted as excellent in the same type of inspection in 2010. "The word 'amazing' is an understatement. A day doesn't go by that I'm not truly amazed at what my fellow squadron members accomplish," said Lt. Col. Glen Christensen, the 39th Security Forces Squadron commander. "I'm very thankful just to be a part of it." Other winners in the 2010 Security Forces Unit Awards were: Outstanding Active Duty Small Security Forces Unit Award 435th Security Forces Squadron, Sembach Air Base, Germany Outstanding Geographically Separated Unit/Munitions Support Squadron Security Forces Unit Award 702nd Munitions Support Squadron, Buechel Air Base, Germany The 39th Security Forces Squadron will represent USAFE in the Air Force-level competition.
