On July 4, 1776, 56 men penned their names on the Declaration of Independence - the document that announced the then 13 colonies as states independent from Great Britain and set the foundation for future America.

While it is important to remember the reason Americans are afforded the opportunity to gather and the many sacrifices fellow many Americans made to ensure its citizens' freedoms are sustained, Independence Day is also cause for celebration. More than 230 years after the declaration's signing, Team Incirlik will commemorate the independence of America as they join in festivities and camaraderie with family and friends.

In observance of the holiday, Arkadas Park will be loaded with fun, food, activities and entertainment from 4-9:30 p.m. July 2 in celebration of Independence Day.

"Obviously, it's good for the morale when we're far from home... it's always a good time and people always seem to have fun," said Mark Sullivan, 39th Force Support Squadron Community Services Flight chief. "Participation last year was pretty good... We always expect there will be a good turnout, and we (scheduled the celebration for) the weekend to get a better turn out."

Among the entertainment, there will be a children's zone, food booths, a mechanical bull, face painting, live music and an assortment of prizes provided by the 39th Force Support Squadron and various sponsors.

The 2nd Annual Strongman Competition will begin 5 p.m. at the Arkadas Park parking area; a hotdog eating contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.; and hard-rock band Matthew JC and the AllStars will perform while fashion models parade down a runway. The evening will conclude with a 15 to 20 minute fireworks show at 9 p.m.

"It takes about two days to set up the fireworks, and it's usually a really good show," Mr. Sullivan said.

Also in celebration of America's independence, the bowling center is offering $1 games and $1 shoe rentals.
