Incirlik Airmen reach out to areas in need Published July 28, 2011 By Senior Airman Anthony J. Hyatt 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Multiple agencies from the Incirlik community pulled together July 25 to provide much needed supplies to vital facilities in the Republic of Georgia and Azerbaijan. This gesture, a combined effort between the DLA Disposition Services and the U.S. State Department, will provide furniture to be used in a new outpatient clinic near central Georgia and a school near Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. "I love seeing this equipment being reutilized. It's going to the right place where people need it," said Sedat Deryalar, a DLA Disposition Services property disposal specialist. "Sixteen volunteers showed up and worked really hard to wrap the furniture. They finished a two-day task in two hours." Approximately $91,000 worth of furniture was packaged and will be issued to the State Department, which will donate the furniture, according to Deryalar. Each project is expected to have positive results, according to a press release from Counterpart International, a global development organization that addresses humanitarian issues to improve standards of living. The clinic will provide medical services to more than 1,600 residents, while the improved school will impact more than 1,150 children and 173 personnel. "This was a great volunteer opportunity- one that provided the Airmen at Incirlik a unique opportunity to reach out to the people of the Republic of Georgia and Azerbaijan," said Airman 1st Class Eric Punjabi, a 39th Contracting Squadron contract administrator. Team Incirlik has supported the Republic of Georgia in the past. In 2009, Incirlik donated about $78,000 worth of furniture to the Republic of Georgia to help furnish a youth camp that specialized in helping children with diabetes.
