A&FRC program offers support to Airmen Published Sept. 29, 2011 By Senior Airman Anthony J. Hyatt 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- The Incirlik Airman and Family Readiness Center held their monthly Lunch and Learn program Sept. 29 in the 39th Mission Support Group conference room. The theme for this was "staying positive in negative situations." The Lunch and Learn program explores the many challenges of the military lifestyle and offers coping skills for maintaining high performance and a positive outlook. Open to anyone, participants were encouraged to bring their own lunch and receive assistance from Military and Family Life Consultants, according to LeAnn Throlson, 39th Force Support Squadron A&FRC director. The life consultant relayed the message that maintaining a positive attitude is a choice, not something that happens to you; changing your destructive thinking to positive thinking can help maintain a positive attitude; positive thinking promotes motivation; goal setting can keep you motivated; it's important to practice self-care; and negative thinking can have an adverse affect on the workplace and in individual lives. Presentations offered by the A&FRC are from the MFLC presentation library. They have presentations on several topics tailored to the military community including communication, conflict resolution, diversity, marriage, parenting, team building and more, said Throlson. "Everyone experiences different challenges in life, especially in the military. We offer a variety of lunch and learns to empower individuals and families to overcome these challenges, hopefully as a stronger person or family unit," said Throlson. The A&FRC's next Lunch and Learn is scheduled for 11 a.m. Oct. 27 in the A&FRC. October's Lunch and Learn will cover "MatriMoney," which will address the financial issues common between spouses, how to learn to recognize your own emotions with money and your partners, as well as tips on how to successfully communicate with your partner about money. "Like most A&FRC programs, the MFLCs can provide these presentations out in the units or for private organizations. Those interested in a presentation can call the A&FRC to set it up or request a list of available presentations." For more information on the Lunch and Learn program, call the A&FRC at DSN 676-6755.
