Members of Incirlik Air Base are teaming together to gather supplies for victims of the recent earthquake in southeastern Turkey.

On Oct. 23, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake rumbled near Van, Turkey, killing more than 600 and injuring more than 1,000.

"When we first heard about the earthquake we wanted to try to help where we could. We have a good relationship with Turkey. We appreciate their hospitality while we're here, so we wanted to try to help them out where we can," said Chaplain (Maj.) Robert Monagle, 39th Air Base Wing chaplain.

Team Incirlik members may donate the following:

- Basic hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.
- Cleaning supplies
- Winter clothing such as jackets, long-sleeved shirts, pants and other items for men, women children and infants
- Shoes or boots for men, women children and infants

We're already getting a lot of stuff in, and we'll be collecting until Nov. 10," said the chaplain. "We don't want to drag it out too long because the people need the items right away. ... It's already snowing there, and it's cold. They're in a higher elevation."

Once items are collected, the wing will coordinate donating the items to the Turkish Red Crescent.

"People have been very enthusiastic (about donating) because a lot of people heard about the earthquake and made inquiries about how they could help," Monagle said. "As soon as people heard things were needed, people began collecting items within their squadrons or otherwise. People seemed excited to help in a positive way, especially since people here find the Turkish people to be welcoming and hospitable.

"It's an opportunity to give back to the Turkish folks," he said. "I think that we'll get a good turn out; so in the end we'll give something significant to the Turkish Red Crescent."
