In an effort to ensure the safety of Team Incirlik members under 18 years old, as well as mitigate defacement of base property and other issues, the 39th Air Base Wing implemented a base curfew policy signed into effect April 10.

"These measures will assist in trying to keep good order throughout the installation," stated Tech. Sgt. Andrew Williams, 39th Security Forces Squadron.

According to the Incirlik Air Base instruction, unaccompanied children under 18 years old may not loiter in public places during curfew hours. Parents and guardians are charged with ensuring their minor dependents heed curfew rules, and may not use lack of knowledge of the minor's whereabouts as a defense.

The regulation also states those found or suspected to be violating curfew hours will be detained by security forces, at which point the minor's sponsor and the sponsor's first sergeant and commander will be notified. In the event of multiple violations more severe actions will result.

Though there are strict guidelines for the curfew, there are also a few exceptions. During curfew hours, children 12 to 17 years old may travel unaccompanied directly to or from authorized base activities, including places of employment, chapel services, athletic events, youth services, and others.

"Last year, there were numerous amounts of vandalisms occurring on the installation from the sidewalk lighting being destroyed to the parks in the housing areas spray painted," stated Williams. "This is actually more of a preventative measure."

The curfew hours according to the regulation are below.

School day curfew hours, in effect from the first to the last day of school:
9 p.m. - 6 a.m. for children 14 years old and under
11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for children 15 to 17 years old

Weekends and non-school day curfew hours:
10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for children 14 years old and under
12:01 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. for children 15 to 17 years old

Summer vacation curfew hours:
10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for children 14 years old and under
