Personnel assigned to the 39th Air Base Wing may have heard talk, or even speculation, pertaining to the possibility of Turkish workers going on strike. As with any situation, it is important to know the facts as rumors tend to spread quickly and can cause people to worry unnecessarily.

Currently, Turkish workers are not on strike, nor have they determined if they will strike. The base is still in the negotiation phase with the labor union that represents Incirlik Air Base's Turkish staff. Also, if laborers decide to strike, base officials will ensure military members, families, and base employees are aware and would ensure personnel know what actions to take.

"We would be able to sustain our mission here at Incirlik and take care of our people, even if a strike occurred," said Col. Chris Craige, 39th Air Base Wing commander. "As with any change there are challenges, but they are manageable challenges, and I have complete faith in the ability of our people to handle labor contingencies."

He added that the base has been working diligently on a plan in the event the strike came to pass.

"Labor union negotiations are a normal part of having contracted services and it involves all parties coming together every couple of years to review the terms. However, as normal as that may be, we as a wing are doing our part to prepare for any outcome," said Colonel Craige.

People should obtain information through official channels to help prevent the spread of rumors, as wing leadership will inform the base of any changes or updates.
