YES program offers money for education, work skills Published Aug. 17, 2012 By Senior Airman Clayton Lenhardt 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- High school students at Incirlik can earn money for their education while learning valuable work skills by volunteering through the Youth Employment Skills program. "The Youth Employment Skills program is an on-base youth volunteer program funded by the Air Force Aid Society and jointly administered by AFAS and AirmanĀ and Family Services Flight," said Jason Clute, youth center recreation technician. The YES program allows volunteers to earn $4 for every hour volunteered. Throughout all four years of high school, students may volunteer for as many as 250 hours for a maximum of $1,000 toward their vocational-technical or academic endeavors. The Incirlik youth center also receives $2 for every volunteer hour, for up to $10,000 per year to be used in support of base youth program enhancements. The program begins every year at the start of June and ends May 31 of the following year. Currently there are six students participating in the program. Volunteer positions become available through two ways. An organization can contact the YES program requesting help, or a student can ask to work with a certain organization. That organization will attempt to allow the volunteer to help however they can. "I want to encourage all high school students to come to the Youth Center and take advantage of the program," said Clute. "It is as easy as filling out an application with basic information, having an office submit a position description of your duties to the Youth Center, volunteering at an approved office, and earning money for college." For more information, contact the youth center at DSN 676-6670.
