39th CS Airmen cut phone service costs by 70% Published Sept. 17, 2012 By Senior Airman Marissa Tucker 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Beginning Oct. 1, the fee for local telephone services on base will drop from $27 to $10 per month after members of the 39th Communications Squadron sought ways to decrease the cost to customers. The 39th CS cyber transport flight, who maintains and repairs all phone lines on base, conducted a cost study and found they could reduce monthly bills by 70 percent, said 1st Lt. Jack Weisse, 39 CS plans and programs deputy flight commander. "The bill customers pay each month goes toward maintaining the cable lines and trying to improve services and call quality," Weisse said. "We found that we can reduce the cost of the monthly bill and still provide quality services to the Incirlik community." Incirlik is the only base in the Air Force where the communications squadron has complete control over the phone lines, which enabled the cyber transport flight to reduce costs for base residents. The price reduction comes with a change to the regular service plans. Two options will be available for all base residents. For $10 a month, customers can make unlimited calls to DSN numbers on base and the operator. For local off-base calls, a fee will be charged for each call. Those who do not wish to pay for service can still connect their phone lines to receive calls and dial emergency numbers, but they will no longer be able to dial the operator to make outgoing calls. As the 39th CS prepares for the transition, customers basewide seem to appreciate the reduction in cost and commend the cyber transport flight for finding a way to lower costs to Airmen. "Usually, when something is always done one way, people don't question it, but I'm glad they did the work to try to help everyone on base," said Airman 1st Class Mary Barrera, 39th Contracting Squadron contract specialist, who lives in the dorms here. A new form will be available on the Incirlik portal page in the coming weeks for base residents to submit for the reduced rate. Customers must complete this form to receive the reduced rate. For more information, visit the 39th CS page on the Incirlik portal, or call DSN 676-8100. The new telephone activation form can be downloaded by clicking here. The forms can then be e-mailed to 39cs.scoi.teleadmins@incirlik.af.mil.
