Incirlik's Great Cookie Caper brings joy to Airmen Published Dec. 11, 2012 By Senior Airman Daniel Phelps 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Throughout the week of Dec. 3 through 7, all around base Team Incirlik members gathered together for a special Christmas mission: The Great Cookie Caper. The Great Cookie Caper was the gathering of Christmas cookies to give to unaccompanied servicemembers. "We had an amazing turnout this year," said Carla Bigger, wife of 39th Air Base Wing vice commander Col. Brent Bigger. "We had about 50 volunteers and 587 dozen cookies baked for the more than 900 unaccompanied servicemembers attached to Incirlik." Help also came from the Incirlik Unit School and about 40 individuals who baked cookies for the caper. Various base agencies also added to the mission's success. The commissary donated space to store the cookies throughout the week, and Outdoor Recreation donated a surrey decked out in Christmas decorations that was ridden around to help gather extra support. Several first sergeants and volunteers hung bags of cookies on the doors at the dorms and drove cookies out to geographically-separated 39th ABW units. "The cookies were a sweet gesture, definitely a nice surprise after getting off of work," exclaimed Senior Airman Heather Myhres, 39th Comptroller Squadron financier. "I know a lot of people put in a lot of time and effort to deliver that thoughtful piece-of-home for everyone, and it definitely didn't go unappreciated amongst us dorm Airmen." "It was an amazing outpouring of support for our Team Incirlik members who are separated during the holidays," added Bigger.
