Incirlik computer users will transition to a new network system designed to enhance mission effectiveness and increase cyber security throughout the force.

In the coming weeks, the 39th Air Base Wing will be migrated to the Air Force Network system, which will increase network security, reduce operational costs and standardize network email addresses across the Air Force.

The biggest thing computer users will notice is the change of Air Force email addresses. Formally, when Airmen arrived at Incirlik, they would be assigned an email address ending in "Incirlik.af.mil." After the conversion, all users will receive a new, permanent email that will transition with them as they move to different duty stations, known as email for life.

Another benefit to the AFNet conversion is that the records are updated through personnel systems such as Military Personnel Data System and the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System. The AFNet system streamlines the process of updating ranks, marital statuses and duty locations because it is done automatically once the information is updated in MilPDS or DEERS.

The 39th Communications Squadron will soon undergo a complete self-transition to the AFNet system to help pre-identify any problems or issues Incirlik users may have during the transition. The rest of the base will be migrated in two phases, with the first beginning Jan. 22. They offer these tips to help ease the switch:

· On the day before the transition, disconnect and back up any large (1 GB or larger) personal folder files (PST) from the inbox. This will help the inbox convert quickly. Here are the steps:
1. Open Outlook
2. Go to File, click Data File Management
3. Click the Data File Tab
4. Highlight the file name ending in .pst
5. Select remove file

· If planning to leave the office before the computer migration process executes, save all work and logoff prior to leaving.

· Continue practicing good information management and reduce the size of your mailbox by moving older emails to locally stored personal folders. Accounts exceeding size limits cannot be migrated and will be unable to send or receive messages. View AFNet mailbox size limits here.

The communications focal point will ensure all users are informed before the migration takes place through email advisories. It is important to read these emails thoroughly. Incirlik network users can call DSN 676-3916 with questions or concerns about the migration, but are still required to put in trouble tickets for computer issues at DSN 478-4357.
