39 ABW tax center now open

INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey --  Its tax season, and help is here. Team Incirlik members can file there taxes free from now until April 19 at the base tax center.

The tax center is open for appointments only. Incirlik members can set up an appointment to file by calling DSN 676-6800 or sending an e-mail to 39abw.taxcenter@us.af.mil.

The office hours for sessions are Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m.

Once an appointment is made, an e-mail will be sent out with the documents that must be brought to the appointment. Members should be specific about their needs in order to ensure recieve the best tax preparation possible.

Those documents may include:

· Social Security card for dependents
· Mortgage statement
· W-2s
· School Loan/tuition documents
· 1099-INT, 1099-DIV forms
· Dependent care documents
· Last year's tax return
· Checkbook (for routing and account numbers)
· Power of Attorney (if applicable)
· Land Value Assessment (rental property only)

"For special cases, we do have two experienced people in the tax office who are able to help out with the hard questions," said Staff Sgt. Joshua Lewis, 39th Air Base Wing paralegal and tax center representative.

Lewis recommended that those who believe they have special cases should schedule their appointments for Thursday when specialists will be more available.

The biggest advantage to  using the tax center as opposed to people doing taxes on their own is that the documents will be reviewed by professionals to ensure no mistakes are made, Lewis commented.

"The most common question we get asked about taxes is when people will see their money," Lewis said. "The minimum amount of time will be about two weeks. People can also go to www.irs.gov to check the status."
