Team Incirlik strengthened in faith with prayer breakfast Published March 21, 2013 By Staff Sgt. Marissa Tucker 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- Members of Incirlik joined the base chapel staff in observing the commander's National Prayer Breakfast March 21, at the consolidated club ballroom. The event, usually held in conjunction with the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., was hosted by the Incirlik Chapel staff. Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Scott Rummage, 39th Air Base Wing head chaplain, was the guest speaker and explained the importance of the breakfast and the need for Airmen to stay spiritually fit. "In this time now, more than ever, we need to pray for ourselves and our nation," he said. The ceremony included a scripture reading and presentations from three Airmen who led prayers for the military, family members and the nation, respectively. Col. Chris Craige, 39th ABW commander gave the final remarks for the event, which concluded with the singing of "God Bless America." The prayer breakfast is an annual tradition at military installations usually coinciding with the national event held at the White House. Its origins stem back to a 1937 meeting between former president Franklin D. Roosevelt and the superintendent of Goodwill Industries where both agreed the world's troubles signaled a need for an increase in prayer.
