Defenders bid farewell to Lt. Col. Brint Woodruff, outgoing SFS commander, and welcomed Lt. Col. Keith McCormack, incoming SFS commander. A change of command is a military tradition that represents a formal transfer of authority and responsibility of a unit from one commanding officer to another. The passing of colors, standards or ensigns from an outgoing commander to an incoming one ensures the unit and its servicemembers are never without official leadership.
