The 39th Medical Group participated in an appreciation week for the Medical Service Corps officers and support personnel Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey.

Events during the week included a kick-off lunch, scavenger hunt, Halloween party, and trivia. The theme of this year’s appreciation week is ‘Celebrating 70: Proud of yesterday, ready today, transforming tomorrow.’

The MSC community is comprised of health service management, biomedical equipment, medical material functions, and other functions that provide support for patient care.

“It’s important to pause at times and recognize the outstanding contributions from the great men and women of the 39th Medical Support Squadron,” said Lt. Col. Robert Orlando, 39th MDSS commander.  “They are professional healthcare administrators and technicians who provide resources, patient movement, medical systems, medical logistics, laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy services on time and on target. Subsequently, clinicians can provide exceptional trusted care to our Titan community.”

MSC Appreciation Week is a Defense Health Agency-wide celebration that occurs during the end of October, recognizing the efforts healthcare support personnel provide to patient care.

“For us there’s so much variety in our job from filling resource advisor positions to logistics,” said Tech. Sgt. Miguel Amador, 39th Air Base Wing command chief executive assistant and health services management technician. “We have a big impact on patient care, from the lowest level of medical records making sure everything is input, filed and scanned in properly. It’s very handy having the operational side interacting with patients while we take care of the administrative side.”

That teamwork is what Orlando said helps the medical group provide the best patient care possible.

“I enjoy interacting with every member on my team and the unique opportunity of experiencing a different culture in our wonderful host nation, Turkey,” said Orlando. “I’m grateful for the ability to serve in the 39th MDG. Take care of each other and the mission will take care of itself.”
