The 39th Security Forces Squadron has recently been selected as the winner of the 2016 Air Force Association Aerospace Award, Citation of Honor category, here.

The Citation of Honor is awarded for contributions significantly exceeding standard performance by an Air Force military member, Air Force civilian, unit or group of individuals.

“Winning the Citation of Honor is huge to our defenders,” said Senior Master Sgt. Travis Chadick, 39th SFS manager. “They’ve busted their backs and carried the load. Our men and women of the 39th are true warriors and battle to get the mission done correctly. Being told you’re doing a great job is one thing, but winning honors from a professional organization like the AFA certifies the sweat and long hours were all worthwhile.”

The award didn’t come easily, as the 39th SFS executed three “no fail” missions simultaneously. The defenders led and accomplished tasks in designated high threat areas, such as securing airpower projection platforms and munitions supporting multiple operations to include Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Additionally, they protected more than 5,000 joint coalition forces, Department of Defense military and dependents, and civilians during increased force protection conditions.

“Our success is a direct reflection of our Airmen, from the highest to lowest ranking,” said Chadick. “Our defenders sacrificed time and energy away from their families to secure this base, launch and recover aircraft, and protect our assets; they did it all and much more. We captured efficiencies and re-purposed items, becoming leaner and stronger, and also adaptive and flexible. Our brilliant defenders are top-quality Airmen and I’m proud of each one of them!”

With the Citation of Honor award clinched, the 39th SFS looks to stay focused on the mission at hand.

“It was an honor to win this award,” said Senior Airman Kamron Eiland, 39th SFS command executive assistant. “Our mindset now is to keep moving forward, getting the mission done and being the best SFS in the Air Force.”
