Golf loop gets cleaned during wing run

INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- It was still dark outside when many Team Incirlik members arrived at Building 310 for the monthly wing run on the morning of Dec. 29. A sea of black beanies and cold breath were all that could be seen as the crowd of runners prepped for the wing's monthly trek across the lands of Incirlik.

With Col. "Tip" Stinnette, 39th Air Base Wing commander, leading the way the formation began to move as guidons were raised high.

"These wing runs are a good way to get in shape, build camaraderie and basically wrap up another successful month here at the 'Lik,'" said Colonel Stinnette.

Wing members steadily made their mile-long journey across the tarmac toward their next obstacle - Golf loop.

What will soon be called home for several F-16s from Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, Golf loop needed a little spring cleaning, or in this case winter cleaning.

"FOD (foreign object debris) can be disastrous to a jet engine," said Colonel Stinnette. "They (jet engines) are basically like huge vacuums. With that said I encourage every person to perform FOD rollover checks when necessary."

After Golf loop was spick and span, Team Incirlik formed and geared up for the voyage back, where Colonel Stinnette gave his last wing run speech for 2006.

"2006 has been a great year for us here," he said. "And I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for your hard work and dedication. Have a great weekend and we'll see you back for another great year in 2007."
