Action Line 070914 - Baby changing stations and park closure

Question: Not sure if this is the right avenue for this, but I have two concerns here at Incirlik and wanted to report them to the commander action line. First, there are no changing tables at all at the MPF or the Base Club. My wife and I have had to change our newborn's diapers on the floor of the rest room because there is no where else to do it (we laid out a towel underneath him) unless we do so on the sink or take him out to the car to do so. With all the children on base, this is an issue I'm sure many other parents with small children share with my wife and me.

Also, the children's park between Base Access Road and Corum St. has been under renovation since the week before they let out of school and is still under construction today. It seems as if it has a long way to go from being completed, but each day there are no workers out working on it. It would have seemed to be a much better idea to work on these parks during a time when all the children were in school rather than during summer vacation. Thank you for your time.

Response: First, great suggestion on the changing table additions to the Base Club and building 833's first-floor bathrooms. We will take your idea through our work request process to develop a project to install them in the bathrooms.

I can't give you a specific date as to when they will be installed but we will start the process to initiate your suggestion immediately. We appreciate you bringing this need to our attention.

Secondly, the construction in the park between Base Access Road and Corum St. is part of a three-phase project to install a protective foam padding surface; a safety upgrade to the previous sand surface. We are currently in the last phase of the project which started May 17 and included four parks.

There was a work stoppage during the month of July because of a material delivery issue, however, this has now been resolved and the needed material is on site. The park completion date is scheduled for Sept. 27. Thanks for the concern and we look forward to reopening the parks with the new foam surface.
