On a warm spring morning, April 26, Incirlik Airmen gathered at the field across from the base gym for a briefing. This was no ordinary briefing. They were about to take part in the second annual Dorm Spring Cleaning.

"I started this last year for all dorm residents to take pride in their home and to beautify it," said Senior Master Sgt. Remy Nunag, 39th Communications Squadron first sergeant.

The dorm managers brought out extra cleaning supplies, including pressure washers, for the Airmen to bring the dorms into top shape. They staged the supplies and put them in place for ease of access.

"No one wants to live in a place that's run down," said Master Sgt. Travis Smalls, 39th Force Support Squadron unaccompanied housing superintendent. "It's important for morale to have everything clean and functioning properly."

The dorm-wide cleaning also provided the opportunity for residents to work as a team to clean where they reside.

"It lets them meet their neighbors," Nunag said. "Sometimes people never meet their neighbors. We all take care of each other in a small community."

After the cleaning was over, the dorm residents were treated to a barbeque by the first sergeants.

"We work them hard and then we take care of them," Nunag commented.
Smalls added, "This gives us the opportunity to let the dorm residents know that we have an interest in them and where they live."

The dorm cleanings really bring a sense of community, Nunag acknowledged.

"I really hope this continues," he said. "It's a fantastic program."
