Incirlik celebrates Native American Heritage Month

More than 60 people from around Incirlik showed up at the Consolidated Club to celebrate Native American History Nov. 28. Base members looked at different Native American displays, artifacts and heard a speech from Airman 1st Class Amber Kitto, 39th Logistics Readiness Squadron HAZMAT supply technician, who gave auidence members insight into Native American culture from dream catchers to the eagle feathers.

Besides the luncheon, Incirlik celebrated Native Amerian Heritage with an essay contest and a Native American coloring contest.

The coloring contest was broken into two categories: Incirlik American School students kindergarten through third grade and fourth and fifth graders. The winners of the essay contest were chosen from one category, grades nine through 12.

Coloring contest category 1: Kindergarten through third grade:
1. Ocean Houston, 3rd grade, won a $20 gift certificate from AAFES
2. Kristen Alessi, 1st grade, won $10

Coloring contest category 2: Fourth and fifth grade:
1. Chynna Barbar-Jutan, 5th grade, won $20
2. Jacob Leuguire, 5th grade, won $10

Essay contest: Ninth though 12th grade:
1. Melisa Siedow, 11th grade, $40
2. Behan Siedow, 11th grade, $20
